The Timeless Tradition of Roast Turkey

  • 2 cups chicken broth

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C).
  2. Remove the giblets and neck from the turkey cavity, rinse the turkey under cold water, and pat it dry with paper towels.
  3. Season the cavity with salt and pepper, and place the lemon halves, onion, carrots, and celery inside.
  4. In a small bowl, mix the softened butter, chopped herbs, and minced garlic to create a herb butter mixture.
  5. Gently lift the skin from the turkey breast and rub half of the herb butter mixture directly onto the meat.
  6. Rub the remaining herb butter mixture over the outside of the turkey, making sure to coat the entire surface.
  7. Tie the turkey legs together with kitchen twine, tuck the wing tips under the body, and place the turkey on a rack in a roasting pan.
  8. Pour the chicken broth into the bottom of the pan to keep the turkey moist during roasting.
  9. Roast the turkey in the preheated oven, basting with pan juices every 30 minutes, until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C). This typically takes about 3 to 4 hours, depending on the size of the turkey.
  10. Once the turkey is done, remove it from the oven, tent it with aluminum foil, and let it rest for at least 20 minutes before carving.
