Mee Goreng

Mee Goreng is a popular and aromatic Indonesian stir-fried noodle dish that tantalizes the taste buds with its bold flavors and unique blend of spices. This street food favorite is a delightful medley of chewy egg noodles, vibrant vegetables, succulent proteins, and a rich, savory sauce.

Ingredients:

  • 250g egg noodles
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced
  • 100g chicken, beef, or tofu (choose your preference), thinly sliced
  • 1 carrot, julienned
  • 1 bell pepper, sliced
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sweet soy sauce (kecap manis)
  • 1 teaspoon curry powder
  • 1 teaspoon chili paste (adjust to taste)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh cilantro and lime wedges for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Prepare Noodles: Cook the egg noodles according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  2. Sauté Aromatics: In a large wok or skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Sauté garlic and onions until fragrant.
  3. Add Protein: Add the sliced chicken, beef, or tofu to the wok. Cook until browned and cooked through.
  4. Vegetables: Stir in the julienned carrot and sliced bell pepper. Cook for a few minutes until the vegetables are slightly tender.
  5. Push Aside and Scramble Eggs: Push the cooked ingredients to one side of the wok. Pour beaten eggs into the empty space and scramble until just set.
  6. Combine Ingredients: Mix the scrambled eggs with the rest of the ingredients in the wok.
  7. Add Noodles and Sauce: Add the cooked egg noodles to the wok. Pour soy sauce, oyster sauce, sweet soy sauce, curry powder, and chili paste over the noodles. Toss everything together until well combined.
  8. Season and Garnish: Season with salt and pepper to taste. Garnish with fresh cilantro.
  9. Serve: Dish out the Mee Goreng onto plates and serve hot, garnished with lime wedges on the side.
